RBOboe Edition was created by Rachel Broadbent in 2017. This Edition has been created to focus on educational books for oboe along with music for double reed ensemble. The aim is to create a new range of fun music that also helps focus students on their techinque and musicality.
Rachel is an oboist herself and has spent the last 20 years freelancing in many orchestras and ensembles around the country as well as performing as a soloist. Alongside her performing career Rachel has always been passionate about education and helping encourage the next generation of oboists and aswell as teaching in various schools Rachel is an oboe teacher in the Junior Department of Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Each year Rachel has coached at the Big Double Reed Day in London and has also given workshops at the Cork School of Music Double Reed Day and has coached the wind section of the Portuguese Youth Orchestra. Rachel is already a published arranger with an oboe trio published by Phyllosophocus Publications and an Oboe and Piano piece published by Emerson Edition.
This wide ranging experience and working regularly with students has lead her to start writing her own music for students which focus on areas that she often sees students find difficult or music that helps students approach things in a totally different way. The first books that will be published are written to help students think more about how to interpret music and to try and help engage a dialogue between the student and teacher about how to bring character, personality and story telling to their playing.
The first book 20 Character Pieces has now been published and is available direct from this website or from Howarths of London. Further books in this series are being developed and will be added at a later date. There will also be a range of double reed ensemble music available to purchase on this site which will be available as pdfs sent to the purchaser by email. These double reed ensembles will be focusing at the start on the student level for school double reed groups as there is often a need for music with a really wide ranging level of parts. Over the years Rachel has done many double reed arrangements for school groups and so these will gradually be added to this site.
